Our Story
Next Step Up was created because our community saw a need and refused to ignore it. For years, individuals and families facing homelessness in Medina County relied on temporary solutions (staying in churches, in the homes of volunteers, or in hotel rooms). Those options became unsustainable during and after COVID and it became clear that a permanent, coordinated response was needed.
In 2021, community leaders, service providers and elected officials came together to find that solution. Four years later, we opened our doors. Today, we are Medina County’s only emergency housing shelter, offering 27 beds and two cribs in a safe, supportive environment. We're a 501(c)(3) nonprofit managed by Medina Metropolitan Housing Authority and built on collaboration, accountability and care. We believe shelter is just the starting point. We work alongside our Guests to build stability, set goals and take meaningful steps forward.
Our Mission
We create and advocate for quality, innovative and diverse housing choices; we support those who face housing challenges with resources and opportunities; and we collaborate with partners who share our vision for stronger communities.
Our Vision
We envision a future where everyone has a safe, affordable place to call home, a sense of belonging, and a solid foundation for stability, self-sufficiency and success.
Our Impact on the Community
